STYLISH LIVING & WORKING IN MITTE
Spandauer Vorstadt in Berlin-Mitte is the largest contiguous heritage site ensemble in Berlin. Its heritage status applies not only to the individual buildings, but to the entire area. Intervention in the building’s structure was undertaken in cooperation with the relevant heritage authorities, as well as the State Conservation Agency.
The building at Neue Schönhauser Strasse 15 was built between 1755 and 1800 as a three-storey residential house and, despite a major overhaul, with its symmetrical façade and saddle roof, it still provides a good idea of what Neue Schönhauser Strasse must have looked like when it was first built in the 18th century. On the courtyard side, one of the arcades and parts of the wooden baroque staircase that were once so numerous in Berlin, still exists. After the acquisition of the object, the residential and commercial building was refurbished and developed according to the plans of the architectural firm nps tchoban voss, as well as extended with a modern, carefully integrated new-build in the courtyard, and a new basement for retail use.
A further expansion took place underground, with a basement being excavated under the existing courtyard, adding 400 m² of commercial space.
The commercial units were leased to &other stories, as well as yellow korner. The apartments were given new, contemporary layouts and fitted to premium standards.
